Momentum in Ministry

October 17, 2017

Ability is what you're capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it. ~ Lou Holtz

In any organization, momentum and/or excitement lasts only as long as the the least excited person holds out. A great initiative can be slowed or even ruined by one naysayer.  When looking at life through a Christian lens, we know that each day is a constant battle with the obstacles that Satan puts in our way.  What we forget is how often our attitude and motivation (or lack of them) effect those around us.

We all have the ability to be encouraging and to motivate, what we often lack is the knowledge that all our actions matter. Something as small as a handshake or pat on the back can do wonders.  In the same way, a rude comment or action can derail someone else's day.

So as we battle each day with sin, we know that we aren't Sisyphus.  We are not doomed to the same task, day after day, with no hope of relief. We have struggles, we have trials, but we have an advantage over the world. We are Christians. We have the joy of salvation through Jesus.

Galatians 6:9 states: Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

We cannot give up. We cannot give in to the small temptations that can slow our individual momentum and we certainly don't want to slow someone else's. Let's focus each on every day on helping others move their boulder up the mountain and not let others slow us down!

In Him,

Chris Borland
